How to Interpret ALEKS Placement Results

What is my placement result?
Your placement result is your percentage mastery on the best ALEKS Placement assessment. (Note that this is not the percentage mastery on the Prep Module.

If a student places more than one level up from his/her initial placement by doing ALEKS work, he/she will be required to take a proctored on-campus ALEKS assessment to determine the final Math placement. You are allowed a total of 5 placements and so moving up two levels means you need to reserve your last placement for the proctored assessment on campus.

Course placement is determined as follows:

< 14% 0-13
  • Mat 090 (Basic Mathematics) or
  • Mat 091 (Beginning Algebra) if your campus does not offer Mat 090
≥ 14% 14-29
  • Mat 091 (Beginning Algebra) or
  • Mat 103 (Beginning and Intermediate Algebra)
≥ 30% 30-45 Mat 105 (Introduction to College Algebra)
≥ 46% 46-60
  • Mat 110 (College Algebra) or
  • Mat 108 (Quantitative Reasoning) or
  • Mat 117 (Elementary Statistics) or
  • Mat 130 (Mathematics for Elementary Teachers) or Mat 132 (Geometry for Elementary Teachers)
≥ 61% 61-75
  • Mat 113 (Trigonometry) or
  • Mat 124 (Pre-Calculus) or
  • Mat 211 (Business Calculus) or
  • Mat 210 (Finite Mathematics)
≥ 76% 76-100 Mat 221 (Calculus I)
