Interfaith chaplain to discuss home funeral and ‘green’ burial choices

By UW-Barron County

Home funerals and “green” burials are the topics of a February 8 presentation at UW-Barron County by Lucy Basler, Webster, Wis. She will talk from noon to 1 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Ritzinger 234) as part of the university’s Thursdays @ the U Performance and Lecture Series. Her discussion will focus on spiritual, financial and environmental reasons for making these choices.

Basler has been an interfaith chaplain since 1995 as well as a hospice chaplain and bereavement coordinator for the past 11 years. She is trained in family-directed home funeral guidance and natural burial requirements. She is co-founder of the Loss and Grief Support Network and also directs Sacred Ceremonies, Ltd., whose mission is to assist families in various rites of passage.  She travels throughout western and northern Wisconsin helping families plan and carry out home funerals and more environmentally-friendly burials.

The Thursdays @ the U series is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the UW-Barron County Foundation. UW-BC is located at 1800 College Dr., Rice Lake. For more information, call the campus at 715-234-8176.
