The next Thursdays @ the U lecture scheduled for April 17 will feature Dandrielle Lewis, UW-Eau Claire Department of Mathematics. This presentation will be held from 12:30 – 1:20 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall at UW-Barron County in Rice Lake. All series presentations are open to the public free of charge.
Dr. Lewis will be speaking on “Faculty and Undergraduate Research in Group Theory.” Dr. Lewis notes that in group theory, a central product of two groups is a quotient of a direct product of two groups with an amalgamated center. Central products are used to classify extraspecial groups. Dr. Lewis will be joined by her research student and will discuss central products, provide examples, and discuss their recent work in classifying subgroups of a central product of two groups.
Dr. Lewis is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at UW-Eau Claire. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from SUNY Binghamton University, a M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Iowa, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Winston Salem State University.
The next Thursdays @ the U presentation will be on April 24 and will feature readings by area authors to celebrate the release of the new 2014 edition of Red Cedar, UW-BC’s annual journal of the arts and literature.
The Thursdays @ the U Lecture Series is sponsored by the UW-Barron County Foundation. For more information, contact the campus at 715-234-8176.
