UW-Barron County will be celebrating the publication of “Red Cedar 2018” on May 10, noon to 1 p.m., in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall, as part of the campus’ Thursdays @ the U Lecture and Performance Series. Published each spring, “Red Cedar” features the work of creative writers as well as selected Visual Arts students. The publication includes poems, short stories, creative nonfiction, photographs, drawings and paintings. During this session, selected authors will read their compositions and art students will discuss their processes as well as the content and symbolism of their works.
“Red Cedar” was first published in 1999 and was dedicated solely to the works of UW-Barron County students. In subsequent years, it expanded to include works submitted from throughout Wisconsin, including authors and artists not affiliated with a UW campus. This year, individuals submitting to “Red Cedar” included students, alumni, faculty and staff from the 13 two-year campuses to recognize the historic role of the UW Colleges across Wisconsin. Free copies of the publication will be available to attendees.
Thursdays @ the U events are free, open to the public and sponsored by the UW-Barron County Foundation. UW-Barron County is located at 1800 College Dr., Rice Lake. For more information, call 715-234-8176.
