The next Thursdays @ the U lecture series presentation, scheduled for November 14, will feature Barron County Circuit Court Judge Michael Bitney speaking on “Effective Sentencing: Evidence-based Practices” This presentation will be held from 12:30 – 1:20 p.m. in the UW-BC Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Rice Lake.
All series presentations, which are open to the public free of charge, will be held every Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Rice Lake.
In his presentation, Judge Bitney will discuss how judges can use research to create sentences more likely to reduce recidivism and increase public safety. Judge Bitney Received his law degree in 1985 from Hamline University. He was a litigator and general practibioner from 1985 – 1992. He then worked as the District Attorney for Washburn County from 1993 – 2013 before being named a judge in the Barron County Circuit Court.
The next Thursdays @ the U on November 21 will feature Max Garland, Wisconsin State Poet Laureate.
