New Continuing Education Courses Offered in August at UW-BC

Two art courses and a mushrooming class will be offered in August at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Rice Lake.

Shading Techniques will meet August 5, 7, 12, and 14 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Art Room.  This course will focus on drawing and shading techniques used to give objects shine, contrast, reflection and a sense of being three dimensional.  The registration fee is $39.

Portrait Drawing will meet August 19 and 21 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Art Room.  This course will explore tips and techniques that will allow the artist to draw a likeness of another person.  The registration fee is $29.

Instructor for both courses is Ginnie Baer. Ginnie obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Painting and Drawing) from the Ohio State University and her Master of Fine Arts (Painting and Printmaking) from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She is an artist who specializes in painting and drawing.  She has experience teaching beginners as well as more advanced students. She is currently the Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County.   Her work has been shown nationally including exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Columbus, OH and Richmond, VA.

Intermediate Mushrooming Level 1 will meet August 20, 22, and 24.  The August 20 and 22 sessions will meet from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in room 223 Ritzinger Hall.  The August 24 session is a field trip scheduled from 8:00 a.m. – 12 noon, location to be determined. This class will introduce students to easily identify lesser known edible mushrooms not covered in the previous session (101).  It will include additional accurate identification techniques and an accurate map of mushroom seasons.  Attendance in Wild Mushrooms 101 is recommended.  Mushrooms covered include Entolomas, Honey Mushrooms, Sweet Tooth/Hedgehog, Black Trumpet, Fairy Rings, and Violet Coral.  Instructor of the course is 30 year wild mushroom foraging veteran Tavis Lynch.  Registration fee is $49.
