Th@U to Feature Dr. Pignetti

The next Thursdays @ the U lecture series presentation, scheduled for October 10, will feature Dr. Daisy Pignetti speaking on “Blogging for Recovery after Katrina.”  This presentation will be held from 12:30 – 1:20 p.m. in the UW-BC Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Rice Lake.

All series presentations, which are open to the public free of charge, will be held every Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Rice Lake.

Dr. Pignetti, Associate Professor of Composition and Rhetoric at UW-Stout, will present her research on how blogging aided the recovery in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Pignetti was born and raised in New Orleans and lived there for 28 years before pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of South Florida.  She lost her childhood home to Hurricane Katrina.  Her Ph.D. dissertation was titled “Writing to (Re)New Orleans:  The Post-Hurricane Katrina Blogosphere & Its Ability To Inspire Recovery” and she continues to make social media and disaster a focus of her research.

This presentation is a part of the UW-BC Public Affairs Series.

The next Thursdays @ the U on October 17 will feature UW-BC Associate Lecturer of Geography Steve Curran speaking on “Tornado Climatology.”

The Thursdays @ the U Lecture Series is sponsored by the UW-Barron County Foundation.  For more information, contact the campus at 715-234-8176.
