Thursday @ the U will feature Dianne Arndt

9/20/13

The next Thursdays @ the U lecture series presentation, scheduled for September 26, will feature Dianne Arndt speaking on “Wisconsin Height Modernization Program.”  This presentation will be held from 12:30 – 1:20 p.m. in the UW-BC Blue Hills Lecture Hall and is part of UW-BC’s Constitution Day observance.

All series presentations, which are open to the public free of charge, will be held every Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Rice Lake.

Arndt is a Wisconsin state geodesist and civil engineer with the Department of Transportation.  In her presentation she will explain how modern geodetic survey monuments are used in conjunction with GPS to provide latitude, longitude and elevation coordinates within a centimeter of accuracy.  To begin work to update our current data, the state was divided into four geographic regions.  Work in each region extends over a four year period, with recovery of existing monuments and planning in year one, monumentation in year two, GPS and leveling field observation in year three, and the analysis and adjustment of data for submission to the National Geodetic Survey in year four.

This presentation is part of the Science and Mathematics Series.

The next Thursdays @ the U on October 3 will feature freelance journalist and author Eva Apelqvist speaking on “LGBTQ Families.”

The Thursdays @ the U Lecture Series is sponsored by the UW-Barron County Foundation.  For more information, contact the campus at 715-234-8176.
